Rob has been playing keyboards since grade school, from piano to the Hammond B-3. He got his first taste of rock stardom fronting a 5-piece group in 6th grade, where he also learned the importance of not grabbing two non-grounded electric instruments at the same time. This group appeared at a school assembly and a birthday party before splitting up, citing artistic differences. Rob took the breakup hard, causing a 35 year hiatus until his friend Ron LaVerde called and asked Rob to join URB.
